TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY ?

To my DH's despair, I'm living 5 mins. from the only quilt shop in town. Dominique, the shop owner, knows me VERY well. Six years ago, she was only selling knitting wool, embroidery floss and notions, etc... When I organized my modest quilting bee (we were, and still are 10), she began to propose a few bolts of printed cotton fabrics. I insisted on the fact that she had to organize a sort of "quilter's day", showing some quilts, at least once a year. (Remember : quilting is not in the Belgian culture - even after years of practice, our best quilters make quilts for "parade", or as wall-hangings, but rarely to simply cuddle under, to USE them...

As time went by, from mouth to ear, quilters began to come from the whole region, wonderful magazines could be found in the local libraries...and Dominique asked her DH to build more shelves, so that she could install as many fabric bolts as possible . Guess who advised her to sell quilting books, as well ? And guess who is translating them into French, for the local super mamies ? - I even happened to translate some Jennifer Chiaverini's novels - for personal and internal use only - and to read them aloud (one chapter a week) during our quilting bees (this was my "technique" to make them come back !)

This, to say that I can't let one day go, without passing by our quilt shop... just to say hello, of course ! (I think I'm the fat-quarters queen !) - may I insist not to omit the word "quarters", please ?

Now, Dominique is organizing a special sales, tomorrow and some dramatic questions are rising :

Do I HAVE fabric ???............ Of course, but......
Do I NEED fabric ???............ Noooooooo, but......
Do I WANT fabric ???............ Yesssssssss, ABSOLUTELY !
Give me a good reason ........... Well...A stash is a stash : it has to keep growing !

TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY ?
THAT IS NOT THE QUESTION !

THE LIST MAKER.

I've always written lists : shopping lists, to-do lists, not-to-do lists, to-read lists, to-watch lists, children lists, hubby lists, menus lists, budget lists, pending lists, vacations lists, quilting lists, and even lists of lists !.........

Today, first vacation day, I wrote my most important one (in green, as it is the color of hope!) :

My quilting list :
----------------

- 13 (square in a square) siggy's waiting to be done and sent out
(what a shame !)

- 4 applique bunnies waiting to be brought together in a nice top

- 1 "country bears" top to be quilted

- 18 applique blocks (3 done) to complete ("Floral Delight",a
Lori Smith pattern)

- "Toffees and Lollipops" : half-quilted single bed quilt, for
my grandson Andrea

- an applique quilting bag to assemble (japanese "taupe" fabrics)

- yoyo's pending(desperate fabric circles are crying in their box)

- +... a pile of UFO's that I'd better not have a look at....

Well, the Q-LIST is neat, the message is clear : TAKE YOUR NEEDLE !

OK, I'll start with the first line and, one by one, at ease in the garden, I'll sew.... It will be a breeze !

I'M BACK !

What did I have in my mind, the day I chose to become a teacher ????????
These last days at school were hard (and hot too !!) but we did it again, as usual.

It just becomes difficult for me to bear those loooooong meetings, talking about each "case" (+/- 30 minutes by student). Imagine : I have 7 classes (intermediate and high level) of +/- 20 students each. there are 18 different courses per class, so 18 teachers,.......... each of them explaining their point of view- and rarely listening to other's - ! Sometimes you really have to fight for the ones who derserve it....In those cases, I often think about my own children, hoping their teachers are doing the same for them.

Many happy graduated students (joy, laughter), others postponed (deception, tears), care and friendship for all of them.
A young girl (17) came by me today, saying :"my parents don't care, neither did I. But one day, you asked me how I was planning my future ? What did I want to build for me ? And when I asked you - why those questions ? - you told me that I was a valuable and interesting person, that I was capable of anything right or wrong, that it was up to me to choose.... So, I chose and I wish to thank you" Needless to say I was crying......

Proud ?... Sometimes
Happy?... As often as possible
Frustrated ?... It happens
Optimistic ?... Always
Realistic ? ... Sometimes
Hungry ? ... Always
Emotional ? ... Too much
Caring ? ... Often

..... To be followed !

JUST A FEW WORDS.....

We enjoyed it so much that we're going back to the sea again, this week-end, until next Tuesday........
A hard week is over : we had to prepare the graduation exams at school, much to do, + many time consuming "bla-bla"meetings, nervous students... AND my own 2 youngest children stressing for their own exams (they enter the univerity by next september), asking for help...

Restricted quilting time, this week :only made some yoyo's (Hi, Jeanne, if you read me !) and a little needleturn applique... It will be better in 3 weeks : two whole months school vacation !
